Blunderbuss Benefit : Sunday at the Lodge : 2015

Manchester four-piece Blunderbuss Benefit are about to redefine everything you know about flat caps. While the quintessential English gents doff those collective hats to the city’s most famous sons, their boots are firmly aimed at the backsides of the blind devoted. The band deliver a social commentary on modern life, with songs full of fighting, dancing, drinking and ultimately our hopes and dreams at the end of each booze-soaked night. Frontman Harry Boulton displays an unassuming intimacy and warmth rarely seen in these times of disposable pump and grind.

He said: “Music’s about emotion and how it makes people feel - it’s as simple as that. “We don’t have a master plan but being in a band is all about putting your heart on the line and having the freedom to express yourself without fear. “Everybody should be in one.”

The Benefit’s output derives from a long heritage of English song writing that champions the common man and makes magic of the mundane. Their sound is a timeless fusion of the finest traditions in indie rock, with rhythmic complexity, anthemic choruses and chopping guitars, while Harry’s vocals hint at a vulnerability inside us all. Blunderbuss Benefit are Harry Boulton on vocals and guitars, Sam Boulton on bass and vocals, Phil Cheetham on guitar and Matt Lovatt on drums.
